Wherever the norms of rational conversation are allowed to do their work, beliefs must earn respect.

NASA estimates that there are 10 billion small terrestrial (Earth-like) planets in our Milky Way Galaxy alone. Let’s take an extremely conservative guess and say that .0001% of these planets support life. That would mean there are 10,000 planets in our galaxy alone which support alien life.
Oh yeah, there are about 500 billion galaxies in our universe. Do the math.
Blows the mind, huh?

Science adjusts its views based on what’s observed. Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

I’ll tell you what you did with Atheists for about 1500 years. You outlawed them from the universities, or any teaching careers, besmirched their reputations, banned or burned their books or their writings of any kind, drove them into exile, humiliated them, seized their properties, arrested them for blasphemy. You dehumanized them with beatings and exquisite torture, gouged out their eyes, slit their tongues, stretched, crushed, or broke their limbs, tore off their breasts if they were a woman, crushed their scrotums of they were men, imprisoned them, stabbed them, disemboweled them, hung them, burnt them alive. And you have the nerve enough to complain to me that I laugh at you.
Here I am, as featured on Faces of Atheists
My name is Charlie - I’m 34 and I live in New York City. I work in technology, collect vinyl records (check out my vinyl blog, 45selecta), I DJ, create music, and I’d like to think I’m a pretty darn good person (despite my lack of supreme being).
Being an atheist can be a lonely thing given the extreme bias we face - particularly here in the US. I think the most important thing we can do as non-believers is to refuse to be relegated to the back of society’s bus - which is why I am contributing my voice to this site. As atheists, it is time to speak up and be counted!
Thanks for listening and please feel free to follow me on my personal blog: moltovomito.com
